Horst Schmidt
Our beloved father passed away into Glory on January 20, 2023 at age 91. He is survived by his children Werner (Maureen) Schmidt, Renate (Michael) Hanrahan, Rainer (Georgia) Schmidt, Gisela (Robert) Wheeler, Brigitte (Wendell) Packard, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sister Renate Attoma and brother Andre’ Schmidt.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Ingeburg, his parents and his brother Stephan Schmidt.
Horst was born in Leipzig, Germany. He met his wife, Ingeburg while apprenticing as a gardener at her Uncle’s Nursery in Western Germany. Together, with their five children, they immigrated to the USA in February of 1964. Horst began a new life with little to his name and apprenticed as a tool and die maker. He remained in that trade, had his own business at one point, and continued in the field until he retired.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 at the Crossroads Church, 1574 Rochester Street, Lima NY. A private burial with family at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lima will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Crossroad Church missions fund or to Crossroads Church.
