Eugene Leroy Benson

Honeoye - Passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at age 79 in Richmond, VA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his sons, Thomas Benson and Robert (Mary Anne) Benson; his brothers, Lee (Lorraine) Benson and Bill (Carole) Benson; and sisters, Shirley Crouse and Arlene (Jim) Appenheimer. He is also survived by his grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Benson; daughter, Michelle Benson; and brother, Ed Benson.

Beloved father, brother, son and devoted friend. Sadly, he lost a long and difficult battle with Covid-19. Gene was a proud Vietnam veteran who served in the US Marines. He was a very talented musician who loved entertaining friends and family with his singing and by playing guitar and harmonica. He was also a talented artist who loved oil painting. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. Gene was a hard-working, loving and compassionate man, who always went out of his way to be there for anyone in need.

His memorial service and celebration of Gene’s life will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the O’Connell – Dougherty Funeral Home 2041 Lake Ave., Lima. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lima. Donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at http://www.donate.vvmf.org
