Obituary for Gilbert L. "Gil" Smith
Avon-September 29, 2019 at age 73. Predeceased by father, Gilbert and mother, Katherine Smith and Great Grandson, Weston Craft. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ellen; their children, Stephanie (Larry) Craft, Ron (Stacy) Smith, Eric Smith, Jason (Christine) Smith; grandchildren, Jordan (Amie) Craft, Joshua Craft, Joanna (Justin) Craft Bowen, Josiah (Julie) Craft, Abigail (Joseph) Charboneau, Elisabeth (Joseph) Hickman, Elijah Craft, Benjamin (Jade) Craft, Caleb Craft, Jeremiah Craft, Isaiah Craft, Priscilla Craft, Dylan Smith, Connor Smith, Aidan Smith, Coty Seeley, Meghan Seeley; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Dick) Roth, Jean (Dale) McConnell, Becky Smith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gil served as a policeman for Caledonia Police Department and later with the Avon Police Department where he retired as sergeant. He also served as a town justice for Caledonia. Gil enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards. In his early years, he worked for Eastman Kodak and was co-owner of the service station in East Avon. Gil also worked part time construction for Norm Barrett in Avon.
Friends may call Friday, October 4, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc. 350 Genesee St., Avon where his Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11 AM. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
